The Reconstruction amendments redefined democracy in America by giving Black Americans the right to vote. The amendments ended the continuation of slavery and allowed equality for all, no matter their race. The amendments allowed everyone to have rights beginning at birth. It redefined democracy in America because for so long white Americans, specifically white males, were given the right to own Black Americans and racism was very prominent. White males were the only ones given the right to vote and given rights at birth before the reconstruction amendments took place.
