In the beginning of U.S. development we were isolationists due to Washington’s policy of not getting involved with any other country but our own. Washington believed that we should just focus on our own country instead of worrying about everyone else. He also believed that being isolated from everyone else would help our economy grow. Neutrality was the best course of action for America because it was caught in the middle of the war of 1812 which caused some loyalty problems in choosing which side we were going to aid, the French or the British. The Truman Doctrine made a huge leap for what it actually was. Truman said that the United States would provide political, military and economic assistance to all democratic nations under threat from external or internal authoritarian forces.”I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way.” (Truman Doctrine,1947).
