Under the insured’s businessowners policy, State Farm has a duty to defend and indemnify the insured against any “suit” seeking “property damage” to which “this insurance applies.” Accordingly, in order to fall within the coverage provisions of the policy, the following elements must be satisfied: 1) the person seeking coverage must be an insured; 2) the insured must seek a defense against a suit; 3) the suit must allege “bodily injury,” “property damage,” or “personal and advertising injury”; and 4) the insurance must apply. In the liability section of the policy there would appear to be little dispute that Kathryn Norman is an insured.…
During slavery the Portuguese attempted to get rid of Islam in their country. The Portuguese used deportation and forceful baptism to get the job done. When entering Africa the Portuguese killed Islamic Natives from the area. After doing this they put up crosses in different locations and in mosques. Then they began to capture those left behind that were unable to fight. They wanted to take the unexpected humans and planned to hold them in captivity. After capturing these humans the Portuguese wanted to bring them to Europe to sell them. Out of some 20 million Africans that were enslaved 20-30% of them were Muslim. One of those enslaved Muslims was Yarrow Mamout.…

During the earlier portion of the time period, Africans practiced native religious traditions. These traditions included animism, paganism and idol worship, monotheism (separate from Judeo-Christian), ancestor veneration, as well as capturing and scaring spirits through art and masks. While these traditions were being practiced throughout the region, Northern Africa was being conquered under the dar-al Islam by the Umayyad Caliphate and therefore had begun to be influenced by Islam. The kingdom of Ghana in western sub-Saharan Africa had been engaging in trans-Saharan trade with the Berbers of North Africa and with trade comes the spread of religion and culture. With the introduction of Islam, there was a surge of conversions by leaders and elites of Ghana in order to be more connected with the rest of Afro-Eurasia-both in and…

David Mares gives us insight into the political economy of drug trafficking in his book Drug Wars and Coffee Houses. To help us understand how psychoactive substances are organized and distributed, he uses the concept of a commodity chain. A commodity chain is the system that links consumption of psychoactive substances to everything that makes it possible, and proves that if something affects one phase of the system, the other phases are affected as well. Consumers and producers in this system depend on each other, and “neither one could exist without the other” (Mares, p.13). The whole system consists of various pieces that ultimately work towards getting the consumer what they want, and from a producer who actually has what they want. Since consumers and producers are rarely ever in the same place, consumers get their substances from a transportation network. These traffickers get the substances from the producers, and just like any other business, producers need various inputs. This includes “labor, chemicals, and in the case of illegal products, perhaps weapons and corrupt officials, to produce and transport the substance” (Mares, p.13). So then we have the people who provide these inputs. Playing with drug money can get messy, so then money launderers come into the picture. The commodity chain system that Mares presents helps us organize and understand how all these roles connect to get a psychoactive substance produced and distributed to consumers.…

This artwork was made by the Yoruba People from Southwest Nigeria and Southern Benin around the first half of the 20th century. World War 1, World War 2, The Great Depression, the Cold War, were many major historical events that were taking place at the time that changed the worlds view on just about everything. The Yoruba People began creating their magnificent Sculptures, Pottery, Beadwork, Leather, and Headdress in the 12th through 14th centuries. Most artwork is made to honor the gods and ancestors and since there are more than 401 known gods to the Yoruba there is much sculpture and artwork made. Because of the vastness in the number of gods, the Yoruba have been compared to the ancient Greeks in the amount of gods and in the similarities between the structures of the gods. The Yoruba People used their artwork as a means of trade along with their crops so, their artwork is important to Yoruba Society because it contributes to their economy. The Yoruba began to create more abstract wooden sculptures as their major art form later.…

What caused the Pueblo revolt of 1680? The answer to this question, with some basic research, can seem easy to answer at first. However the more this topic is examined the more difficult it is to answer this simple question. It is said that one of the main reasons the Spanish came to Mexico is the search for treasure and wealth. While on this mission for wealth, the Spaniards settled in land that was already occupied by Pueblo Indians in Northern Mexico. Later, the Spanish end up creating a pact with the Pueblo people. Eventually, the Spaniards used the Pueblo people as an advantage to use as a labor force and to spread Christianity. In Weber’s novel he compiles several different pieces of people’s work and bundles them into one unit while…
During the Pueblo Revolt the Indians used measures of destruction and cleansing in order to win back their new freedom in which religion played a large role. After being stripped from their identities and religion, in 1680, under Spanish rule the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico revolted in a victorious uprising [pg.10]. This was a result of centuries of careless exploitation of the land and its people which eliminated more than half of a thriving population. Nonetheless, the Spanish did not see colonization or forced conversion on religion as a big deal compared to the “crimes” the Indians…
