How Did Thomas Edison Change The World
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up” a quote by Thomas Edison one of the inventors of the light bulb. There was also two other people that invented the light bulb but don’t always get credited for it. Those people were Hiram maxim and joseph swan. Thomas Edison probably got more of the recognition for inventing the light bulb because he was more known and he made many more inventions than the other two did. So, Thomas Edison had made more of a name of himself in the invention world. The light bulb was one of the greatest inventions because it changed how we saw things. It gave us light. His invention wasn’t exactly practical because the light didn’t last very long and wasn’t very bright. A couple decades later in 1840 another version of the light bulb was created but it was more modified it was a coiled platinum filament in a vacuum tube. The inventor of this version was Waren de la rue. This new design was better but was still inefficient because it could last longer but the cost of platinum was very high. The next version was in 1850 when joseph swan made his version of the light bulb which was carbonized paper filaments in an evacuated glass bulb. This version worked very well and by 1860 he had created a working model. The only problem with this one was that the production of light was very short. So it made this invention less useful. In 1874 Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans created a light bulb out of carbon rods held between electrodes in glass cylinders filled with nitrogen. Their version worked very well and they tried to commercialize there product for people to buy but they were unsuccessful so they later sold this invention to Thomas
