After Truman discovered the Manhattan Project was a success, Japanese rejected the Potsdam Declaration. He then made one of the most difficult decisions to drop the atomic bomb. August 6,1945 the first atomic bomb Little Boy was dropped on the city of Hiroshima and 70,000 residents died instantly. August 4, the second bomb Fat Man dropped on Nagasaki killing 20,000 instantly. The fatal atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki affected the country of Japan politically, economically, and medically. Soon after the bomb was dropped. “Hirohito insisted that Japan surrendered unconditionally.” And on August 15, 1945 the war ended. Japan had to weaken its military. From the information given to Harry Truman of how the Japanese were not willing to surrender, dropping of the atomic bomb was justified as he did it in order to shorten the agony of war and to save American lives. Based on the choices given, Truman had to take the least costly option which was to use this bomb. Furthermore, the bomb was an approach to end Japanese brutality on the asian countries they have colonized.
