Vivaldi created an abundance of music over his years. At the time that Vivaldi made and played his music, he composed it with only a violin, string instruments and harpsichord. In his era, the more common instruments were woodwind, brass and percussion. Schwarm (2016), looked upon his music as “Light, Bright, and cheerful.” His most famous piece was and still is “Four Seasons”. According to Schwarm, (2016) Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is “The Contest Between Harmony and Invention”. Because of his amazing skill to compose music, he composed 456 concertos, 221 of which were for solo violin and orchestra. That is a little more than half of the total pieces he wrote. Over three decades, he composed almost all of his 825 pieces. He started composing around the age of 20. Vivaldi was a violinist himself and got the talent from his father, who was his first …show more content…
teacher.
Even though he composed beautiful music, he unfortunately faced a few professional problems.
One of the main dilemmas was not being able to raise enough money to pay for his operas. "Given the high cost of such an undertaking and the tough competition among composers to have their work produced, it is no wonder Vivaldi ended up in disputes.” “62 years old, tired and out of money” (Arts Alive, n.d) Even though the lack of funding almost stopped him from performing his operas, he persevered through and was able to put on many operas in his lifetime. He not only faced professional problems, he also had problems at home. He was not always able to pay for his home or everyday needs. This caused him to use thinking flexibly to find ways to make money. He did make some extra money by working in a school as a musical
director.
Vivaldi has inspired countless people to start music. Not only has he inspired people in our time, but he also inspired people during his time. He inspired many young ladies to make music as a profession and also made them believe in themselves. His music makes people feel happy, calm, or excited. There are always multiple movements in his pieces, mostly consisting of a fast, slow, fast rhythm. One of his most inspiring pieces is ‘Four Seasons.’ The piece makes it feel like a whole nother magical place. This piece consists of four concerti. Each season has one concerti. The seasons are described not only through music, but also through poetry which he also created. If someone were to take the poem and turn it into music, then they would get exactly the music. Even though Vivaldi’s vocal music barely known, one of the most famous pieces of all time, ‘Gloria’ was his piece. This piece, even though it is written in Latin, sounds pure beautiful to the ear. This was most often sung in church during Christmas.
From his operas to his sonatas, he has made the world a more musical place. With every note carefully thought about, and though it was not easy, he made his way through it. Vivaldi was only 63 when he died; but he made up to as many as 825 pieces, was still able to perform his operas, and helped people to find what they love.
