After his creation, Disney began to take the entertainment world by storm. Mickey Mouse’s debut was in Steamboat Willie, which happens to be the first synchronized sound cartoon in the world. Shortly after, in 1932, Disney racked up another first. His cartoon Flowers and Trees is the first ever color cartoon, and in 1937 Disney released the first full length animated movie, Snow White. Success was happening for Disney; it was time to move out of his uncle’s garage. Disney, Disney studios had a dip in the creative animated empire resulting in what many refer to the “dark ages” or the Bronze Age of Disney. With many of the original animation retirement Disney Studios entered a relative creative dead zone producing the following: Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective, and Oliver and Company. Stories told in this time period were considered to be a darker tone like the Black Cauldron. The Black Cauldron did not perform well in the box office; however, if it was released closer to the 2000’s, it may have been a great hit as it is very similar to the Lord of the Rings.
