Winston Churchill convinced the Entente Powers to try to get control over western Turkey. The Entente Powers is made up by British Empire, French Republic and Russian Empire. Australian and New Zealand forces also joined in to help the Entente Powers.
Winston Churchill had Admiral Sir Sackville Carden send him a plan for the naval attack in the Straits. Carden was replaced with Sir John de Robeck after collapsing.
Ian Hamilton was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief who was then replaced Sir Charles Monro.
The Entente powers tried to get Turkey to side with them but at the end Turkey entered the war with Germany and Austria-Hungary.

However, British and French attack did not work as well because Turkey had a good defensive system and the Entente Powers did not have good gunnery.
On March 18 the Entente Powers tried to go throughout the Narrows but it failed because of a Turkish minefield.
On March 27 the Entente Powers decided to invade the Gallipoli Peninsula
On October 11 Hamilton was given a proposal to leave the peninsula. However, he did not believe evacuating would be good but he was then replaced by Sir Charles Monro. Monro toured the peninsula and decide on November 15 that evacuating would be the best thing.
The evacuation was agreed on December 7. Between December 10-20 they had evacuated from Anzac Cove and Suvla Bay.
The war ended on January 9, 1916 when the rest of the men were evacuated from Helles.
Why-
The Entente Powers was the Straits because it would give them control. This is because the Straits linked the Mediterranean Sea with Sea of Marmora which would give them access to the Turkish Empire’s industrial powerhouse and the capital city Constantinople. It would also give them a way to the Black Sea.
It would provide a route to Russia for Britain and France, which is their
