What are your feelings about becoming a father? For the soon to be father, he was confused at first and was filled with worry and fear. What were your feelings about this experience?
According to the father of two, he was present during the birth of his child. Also, even before the birth of the child, He used to accompany his wife to all the prenatal visits, just to be rest assured that his child was alright. For him, the experience will remain memorable in his life and relationship with his wife.
What are the three biggest challenges you face as a father? As father, he faced a challenge of transition whereby he had to take care of two people; mother and child. According to Premberg and Lundgren, when you become a father, you have to adjust to new roles in the family and that is the greatest challenge most fathers face (2006). In addition, the father argued that, when they had their child, the wife gave more attention to the kid and never gave him the attention he required as a man. Another challenge he faced was a change in sleep patterns because he had to help the wife take care of the child at night. New born babies never understand a parent’s sleep needs, therefore when the baby cries, he/she will need attention and this deprives them normal sleep. First of all, for one to be a good father, he has to be a good man. A good man takes responsibility of the family as a man and thus becomes a good father. The interviewee thinks that, a good father is one that has a strong relationship with their infant children and even as they grow up. According to this father, a good father should always be there for the mother and the children.
