Augustus took the broken Roman republic and made it into a large and peaceful Roman Empire. His greatest achievement was Roman peace, also called the Pax Romana. In an article called “Octavian-Augustus: The first roman Emperor” it states “ During this period there were no major war and economy prospered.” This was due to trade and agriculture flourishing because of the Pax Romana, which contributed much to the Empire’s success. Augustus also stabilized the government of the Empire so there was no fight for power that could cause a Civil war by being the sole ruler. According to the book the government he stabilized lasted long after he died as well, and the Pax Romana did too.
