Abstract
In today’s society, there are many diseases that affect the development of the human body. One those disorders are Autism. Autism is not nearly as known as the disorder Down 's syndrome, but it is more effective in society. In fact, autism is the third most common developmental disability, affecting 400,000 people worldwide (Autism Society of America). As of yet there is no cure for this debilitating disease, only a variety of treatments. This Research paper will discuss the history of autism and how it affect society today.

Speech therapy helps with communication skills and teaches sign language if needed. Communication boards and pictures are used frequently when teaching these skills. One of the main features of autism is the lack of understanding of social cues (Autism Society of America). Individuals with autism are taught how to communicate in different social settings or learn how to respond to certain facial expressions and emotions. Therapist work closely with the child to ensure proper communication in social settings is met.
Food allergies and sensitivities have been shown to produce a variety of symptoms associated with autism (Focus on Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities 1). Researchers have discovered that children with autism benefit from foods that don’t contain gluten or casein ingredients. The incompetence of successfully processing these ingredients may result in disorders such as postpartum psychosis, schizophrenia, and autism. When these ingredients are not appropriately digested, amino acids occur. They can develop dynamically and behaviors associated with autism
