How Does Bosch's Failure To Receive Performance Enhancing Drugs?
Alex Rodriguez, a renowned MLB Seattle Mariners and Texas Ranger player, was found in the middle of a drug scandal during 3013 when he was accused of injecting performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) into his body. The Miami Times acted as old-fashioned muckrackers by revealing Biogenesis, an anti-aging clinic supervised by Tony Bosch. Bosch and his medical practice was exposed as “PED peddlers” that attracted major league baseball players from various MLB teams. Porter Fischer, a former employee at Biogenesis, tipped off The Miami Times after failure to receive pay from Tony Bosch and months of disagreeing with the events taking place within the medical office. After Fischer’s contact with local news channels a list of accused players surfaced and the MLB’s decade long battle to keep drugs out of America’s favorite sport had been won by performance enhancing drugs. …show more content…
Bosch agreed to cooperate with MLB's investigation and when that news leaked, we found out MLB was looking at suspending as many as 20 players connected to Biogenesis. Minor and major league players from the Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies were accused of visiting Bosch’s office to receive performance enhancing drug injections. “Major League Baseball has worked diligently with the Players Association for more than a decade to make our Joint Drug Program the best in all of professional sports” protested commissioner Bud Selig following the announcement of suspected PED use by 13 Major League players. “I am proud of the comprehensive nature of our efforts – not only with regard to random testing, groundbreaking blood testing for human Growth Hormone and one of the most significant longitudinal

    Known as America’s pastime, baseball is a game in which generations of children of all ages grow up playing in parks, streets, and alleyways throughout America.     Reading the recent articles “We, the Public, Place the Best Athletes on Pedestals” by William Moller, and “Cheating and CHEATING” by Joe Posnanski, I found occasion to consider the use of steroids in baseball for the first time. In these essays, Moller and Posnanski tapped into the running commentary about performance-enhancing substances and their relative acceptability in the baseball arena (no pun intended). “We, the Public, Place the Best Athletes on Pedestals” proclaimed that “the entire steroid outcry is pure hypocrisy” (Moller, 2009, p.548), while Posnanski dared “baseball in Willie Mays’s time, like baseball in every time, was rife with cheating and racism and alcoholism and small-mindedness” (Posnanski, 2010, p.556). Both pieces seemed in agreement that substance use in baseball is par for the course, and I find it hard to believe otherwise, except in blatant denial of the facts. But this line of thinking extends out into a more global conversation about when it is acceptable to use drugs, and when it isn’t. Rather than arguing the morality of drug use or the ethics of enhancement, I feel the greater issue at hand is that athletes – and specifically baseball players – should take responsibility for the impact their drug use has on the American public.…

Lance Armstrong was stripped of all medals after beingaccused of PEDs. He later came clean to the public, apologizing. He obviously realized he was wrong. Another more recent story is Alex Rodriguez, top paid athlete, is a part of the 20 MLB players listed to receive at least 100 game suspension if proven guilty. In the article, “MLB seeks to Suspend A-Rod, Braun” by T.J. Quinn, Pedro Gomez, and Mike Fish, it explains how at least 20 MLB players are under investigation for using PEDs from Tony Busch (founder of Biogenesis of America).
