Amending the U.S. Constitution. The formal process of amending the Constitution is cumbersome and slow. While this fact explains why relatively few amendments have been adopted, it does not discourage advocates of constitutional change from proposing them. Four amendment proposals that have gained considerable attention are the Balanced Budget Amendment, the Birthright Citizenship Amendment, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the Overturn Citizens United Amendment. Select one of these proposals as the topic of your initial post and use the assigned resources to inform yourself about its purpose and the arguments of its supporters and critics.…
The United States Constitution, adopted by the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787 and executed on March 4, 1789, replaced the less effective Articles of Confederation, and is now the supreme law of the United States of America. It is the oldest written constitution still in use, and plays a decisive role in US law and politics. The Constitution is often hailed as a philosophical marvel, and serves as a template for several other nations. Nevertheless, it has been challenged numerous times since its creation. Our founders included a process to amend the constitution if necessary as they foresaw this. The first ten of these amendments are justly named the Bill of Rights for they protect the natural rights of citizens by putting limitations…
• How can the Constitution be changed and why is it important that this can be done?…
One great thing about the Constitution is that it gave power to the people. The document that gave those rights was the Bill of Rights. In document 3 it shows all the…
The Constitution is undoubtedly the strongest and most important document in United States history. It is the Constitution that was responsible for forming our government, along with setting forth the duties and restrictions of this newly created government. The Constitution also provided the people with certain rights that the government was prohibited from taking away. The United States Constitution is said to be the supreme law of the land and all Presidents, governors, state and federal judges and legislators are tasked with the promise to uphold it. As strong as the Constitution is, it is also flexible.…
as you might think. The Constitution gets most of its ideas from past documents. Without these other documents, we would not have the same constitution we have today. Without these documents, we would have a second Articles of Confederation. Without these documents, our country would be completely different.…
Men and women have fought for the rights and the privileges that it ensures American citizens. However, the founding fathers were wise in seeing that with time things might need to change or be amended. The process of amending the constitution is so intricate that out of the over none thousand amendments proposed since its inception only twenty-seven have come to pass. Out of those twenty seven, ten of those amendments were nearly immediate and are known as “The Bill of Rights”. There are two ways to amend the Constitution. First, amendment can take place by a vote of two-thirds of both the House of Representatives and the Senate followed by a ratification of three-fourths of the various state legislatures or conventions in three-fourths of the states. That would mean that today 38 states would have to agree to the amendment. This is the most popular way to approach an amendment. Second, the Constitution might be amended by a Convention called for this purpose by two-thirds of the state legislatures, if the Convention's proposed amendments are later ratified by three-fourths of the state legislatures (or conventions in three-fourths of the states). With such tight restrictions on the process of amending the Constitution it has helped maintain the reverence of the purpose of the great…
The Constitution of the United States of America has become one of the most essential documents of legislation in history. The modern government of America that exists today is built upon the Constitution. Found within the document is another important piece of legislation that is called The Bill of Rights which is composed of the first ten amendments. The purpose of this bill was to protect the rights of the citizens, granting the people certain freedoms and preventing the government from becoming powerful. One of the most heated debates on civil liberties is freedom of speech.…
The constitution should be allowed to be changed but only on a vote; the President or the senate would not be allowed to make changes without the peoples vote. Along with that, it must only be changed to the needs of the country not its…
I feel like the government wants to help and keep everyone safe but at the same time they don’t really prove anything such as the police as an example. If it looks like someone's taking out a gun they automatically shoot without hesitation. Yeah they want to protect themselves but they need to protect the people too and learn how to shoot. One amendment that I talked about was the first one which is having the freedom of speech. I feel like I wouldn’t change any of the amendments because they’re all pretty self explanatory. Another amendment was the fourth amendment which is not to be violated on your property. Like I said I wouldn’t change them but I feel like the government and everyone needs to follow all these amendments so that there really isn’t any complications within everything. “ The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.” - Benjamin…
The Constitution was written for the welfare of the people Our Constituaional rights are very important. Without these rights, the United States would not be any different from other places in the world, who do not have as many rights as we do. Our rights secure the liberties and ensure justice for all.…
The Bill of Rights holds 27 Amendments that are all very beneficial to how our country works and makes decisions. Altering or taking away these amendments could be detrimental to our country’s well-being and take away our basic rights as American citizens. Adding new amendments may be beneficial because of the constant change in our country that needs adapting to and guidelines with ways to manage the new changes. An amendment likely to be made in the future after Mr. Donald Trump’s term(s) might be enforcing gun control and repealing the 2nd Amendment. I say this because even though more than half of the population does not want to have gun control, the other ¼ do, and will most likely find a way to get what they want. Another amendment that might be made is a ban against abortions.…
United States of America is a great country, just like Venezuela or North Korea. Having a corrupt government does not make a nation ‘bad.’ Having a corrupt government is like a car driving off a cliff, the car will explode into the abyss, and there is nothing you can do about it. Greatly, United States is still not floating in midair, right now it is on the point of the cliff. That’s why many do not consider it ‘that’ corrupt compared to other countries. Something those people are not considering is that all of these nation’s mistakes already include corruption and that a few more of those wrongdoings and who knows if one day it’ll include the violence of Somalia. United States has many more issues than the public is aware of. Many people still…
The Bill of Rights gives me many freedoms that people years ago had to live without. Their privacy was often invaded by having to do things like house soldiers(amendment 4), or have their property searched for no reason. People many years ago also could have been forced to worship a certain religion. They might have been persecuted if they failed to obey.…
Viewing the Bill of Rights I begain to under stand how are nation established and strived for so many years. We need the rights in order to become a free yet controlled government. I agree with all of the Rights listed in the Bill, but i feel that the bill should contain more and further rights pertaining to the people and criminals of the United…
