Chemistry Changes Everything: ¹ᶟ¹I - Iodine¹ᶟ¹
An isotope is two or more forms of an element where the nuclei of the element has more neutrons than protons and normally each element only has one stable isotope of the element. Changing the neutrons in the atom also changes the atomic mass but not chemical properties.
Radioisotopes are radioactive versions of an isotope where the atom or element has an unstable nuclei therefore emitting radiation. An unstable nuclei is created when there is either more protons than neutrons or more neutrons than protons in a nuclei.

The nuclei of the atom holds 6protons and 8 neutrons with 6 electrons circling the nuclei. First energy level has 2 electrons and 4 valence electrons in the 2nd energy level. It also helps us produce chemicals that will or are being used in everyday society. But although these things sound good. There is a possibility that you may you may develop lung or bone cancer being exposed to ¹⁴C seeing that the Isotope is slightly radioactive. Being able to Carbon date something is good but does have its limitations as you can only carbon date something accurately back to 45,000 years. One benefit carbon is that we can also help the atmosphere make more by letting of nuclear bombs which produces radiocarbon but will therefore make more people get lung cancer or bone cancer due to the rising level of Carbon¹⁴ in the atmosphere. This will also make the environmental impact worse as there will be more Carbon¹⁴ in plants and animals including humans. We may need to do this in the future tho so that we can get more fossil fuels but again this has a side effect. This means that the world’s economy will also drop and governments letting of these bombs will no longer be able to this. Doing all of this means there will be some major digging and will mean that cultural beliefs will be lost due to destruction of the land and will destroy even more of the environment lowering the oxygen levels around the world (if trees are destroyed in this process).
