I watched through the window for ten minutes and found that no bugs were attracted to the lights I then gave it five more minutes in hope that I will at least see something. Around the twelve minute mark I saw one insect, it appeared to be a tiny flying beetle or cockroach. It only stayed near the light for a minute and then flew away. The rest of the time was spent with no other bugs seen. After the time I immediately went out to take the lamp out and switch the bulb. I then began the blue bulb trial at 10:35 PM, 20 minutes after the end of the orange trial. I gave the blue bulb 15 minutes during that time one tiny mosquito type bug came by for a couple seconds and then flew away. One interesting thing I found during the observation a lizard came out to bask in the light. I found so far on day one I may have to extend the time for the lights to be on longer or I have to change the location of the lamp to see better results. I will decide on this by tomorrow’s …show more content…
I also changed the starting time of the experiment to see if the time of day will change the results. I started with the blue bulb at 11:00 PM and observed it for 20 minutes, in that time I saw no insects come to the light. I then did the orange bulb at 11:40 pm and found similar results no insects were found in the time period watched. The question I form from this observation is: Does the outside streetlights and neighbor lights affecting the results? Above: The lamp in a new position facing towards the left
Day Five: October 17, 2016 (10:00PM)
For this observation I started with the orange bulb and I changed the position of the lamp. I started at the 10 pm and watch the lamp for 20 minutes. In those twenty minutes I saw one flying insect briefly in the light and then it flew away. I then did the blue bulb at 10:40 pm and I found similar results as the orange bulb one tiny bug flew past the light for the entire time period. The question I form from this observation is: What makes insects attracted to light as color does not seem to matter? Observation Days Day One Day Two Day Three Day Four Day Five
