Betrayal is one of the most awful acts that can commit a human being, it becomes even more awful when this act is committed by someone you love. In the novel “heroes” by Robert Cormier, the horrific betrayals that Larry Lasalle causes will tragically change the lives of Francis Casavant and Nicole Renard. At the beginning Robert Cormier is showing Larry as the most trustful men of all FrenchTown, but after going on reading Larry is showing is real face that he was really cleverly hiding with the community trust. Cormier is describing the raping scene as unbearable for the mind of Francis. The scene of Nicole’s rape starts as he creates an excuse to go and says to Nicole: he wants to tell you something that isn’t true. Right at the beginning Larry is once again betraying them since he knew right to the beginning that he wanted to do with her. As the music starts playing and the lights are switched out. Cormier is creating a alarming situation, and when he hears the scene he soon understand what is going on, which is making him a harmless victim, since he could only wait the end of this nightmare. Francis feels devastated, he feels weaker than Larry and everyone else since he didn’t protected his girlfriend Nicole. When he discovers the truth, he feels naïve he didn’t heaven tried. He could know see his dear Nicole that completely furious at him “her hair dishevelled mouth flung open, lips swollen chick moist with tears”.
