How Does Detached Youth Work

Youth work began in the late 1700’s with Sunday school/ragged schools. Then in 1844 George William founded the YMCA. Williams was a drapery worker in London. He was concerned about the welfare of his fellow workers so he started a prayer and bible study group which soon grew and attracted men from across London.
1844 to 1849 saw the YMCA address others concerns of the young men working in cities. Public lecture and education classes were developed and reading and refreshments areas help the young men adjust to urban life.
Today the YMCA has over 58 million has over 58 million member in 119 countries worldwide. It has adapted to the changing needs of the young people. Today it works with young men and woman from all walks of life.
