How Does Dorothy Parker Use Imagery In The Odyssey
Dorothy Parker uses imagery while describing Odysseus’s journey in the poem “Penelope” to imply that Penelope thought Odysseus is on a danger-free mission and is out of harm’s way, which contrasts to Homer’s The Odyssey because the imagery in The Odyssey displays sights of the deadly creatures Odysseus and his crew encounter. Using Penelope’s point of view, Dorothy Parker over exaggerates Odysseus’s journey home with her use of imagery. In “Penelope”, she displayed imagery by saying, “He shall ride the silver seas/He shall cut the glittering wave”(Parker 4-5). These lines make the reader visualize a fantasy journey for Odysseus, which is not what is actually happening. The imagery displayed in The Odyssey is very different than the imagery
