How Does Fast Food Cause Obesity
Some people disagree that fast food is the cause of obesity and believe the real cause is the parents or blaming others for obesity. Yes, fast food is not the only cause of obesity, however, fast food restaurants are the leading cause of the obesity problem. There are numerous fast food restaurants that offer a variety of foods (e.g., burger, tacos, pizza). These fast food restaurants might have other foods to pick from; however, these foods are made of the same fattening ingredients, which is still obviously unhealthy. Most fast food ingredients contain fattening ingredients: saturated fat, carbohydrates, and more sugar than natural foods that are considered healthy. Jenny Murphy pointed out that, “As American eat out more and more frequently, they become accustomed to those oversized portion, and think that such portions are normal. The high calorie content of these large servings leads to weight gain for regular fast food customers, and obesity can lead to many dangerous health problems.” In this last quote, Jenny Murphy states that regular fast food customers are the ones gaining weight, so maybe if the regular customers stop going there as often it might help them in the long run. People become unaware of the product that they are consuming and it begins to be too much and they begin to feel fuller than they normally would. The second reason for obesity is the meals are too calorie filled. One example is that a fast food burger can have two hundred to eight hundred calories each. That amount of calories even for one meal a day can cause someone to become over weight, if it was a regular meal in his/her diet. The second example is that fast food salads are sprayed with sugar raising the taste level but also the calories. Salads being sprayed with sugar make them taste better, but they turn salad into a healthy choice to a bad choice. The third example is the dressing on the salads. The dressings on the salads are very thick and have lots of carbs in them causing the salads to be even worse for the body.…

So with that said, I actually disagree with Weintraub’s point. And that is why I believe that the fast food industry is at blame for this issue. Before we go into detail about how fast food companies are to blame for people over eating their food, it first must be proven that fast food is indeed the main problem causing today's obesity in America. It is known to many people how the number of fast food restaurants in America has increased tremendously over the past several decades, but it is difficult to calculate by how much due to the lack of certain data. Also, it is difficult whether or not to categorize certain restaurants as fast food. In 1968 McDonald's open its 1,000th American restaurant. This number has increased to 13,800 restaurants in 2011, which really shows how much more fast food people are consuming compared to the past. Consider the increase of almost fourteen times in the number of McDonald's restaurants, with the number of…
