How Does Food Waste Affect Our Society

Most people have realized that food waste is a major issue in today’s society, yet we tend to neglect any action towards it. Though there has been an increasing amount of action against food waste, more people need to be convinced that this is a matter that needs immediate attention. Bloom was successful getting the point across in regards to food waste affecting our society in a negative manner. Three phrases he used in the text to get that point across to readers were cultural shift, culture of waste, and culture of thrift. Starting off with a positive, people have slowly changed their ways in order to decrease food waste. A cultural shift was referring to the changes our society has gone through. Though, in my opinion, we still need more people involved in the action against food wasted, there has been change throughout time. For example, as stated in the book we have access to the internet which allows us to spread techniques on saving food that would otherwise be thrown out. It is common now for people to save food for a variety of reasons such as saving money. As stated in the book, the 2008 recession impacted many households and in a way effected people in a positive way to save food. Food may seem as something that is easily available, but when there are
I believe most of the food waste we see today is related to convenience. It’s much easier to throw away leftovers in the garbage disposal than to find someone else that would take it or finding different ways to serve it with new meals. A culture of waste is the portion where our society decides to contribute to food waste. Bloom successfully addressed this problem in the book; we have a ton of hungry Americans and a large amount of food waste. If everyone participated and helped with food waste these people that are starving could be fed. Instead, many of us take the easy way
