While some may see doubt as a protector, others like myself see it as a hindrance when trying to accomplish what others may see as impossible. Certainty is what allows us to accomplish those things. For example, Harriet Tubman was a former slave who escaped the harsh treatment of white slave owners back in 1849, by escaping to Pennsylvania. She could have forgotten about the other blacks/African Americans who were forced into slavery, but instead, …show more content…
And each time she risked getting caught, but even so, she defied all odds and saved a multiple of African Americans. This illustrates the determination Harriet had to help others. She was certain of her calling and so she helped as many as she could escape. Her perseverance and courage overcame the fear slave owners tried to instill and the doubt Harriet had in herself. It reveals to us that if we stay as determined as we can accomplish great feats that many may deem impossible, but that will only happen if we ignore our doubts and persevere. In addition, when I was 10 years old, my mom and dad signed me up to play baseball for the Hampton Royals. I was really scared and nervous because I didn't have any friends on the team, and it was my first day. I made a lot of mistakes on the first day like doing poorly in the grounding drill and dropping a lot of the outfield balls thrown. I also did terrible at batting. But I was certain that the more I came out and kept giving my best effort, I would become nervous and start doing well, and I did. When my mom attended Regent University to get her master's degree, she wasn’t sure if it was the school for her. She struggled some nights getting all her assignments, finding time to watch the lessons, do the discussion posts, etc. Even so, she was certain that if she worked hard enough and aimed for even greater heights, she could get a master’s degree, and she did. She walked across that stage with the biggest smile. This illustrates how doubt can try to creep in, but certainty will be there to push us forward. Doubt can make us think that we aren’t good enough or maybe this or that isn’t right for us, but when you have certainty you have no limits. Even when we fall, we just learn and keep aiming for even greater heights. Also, in the bible, in 1 Samuel chapter 17, there is the story of the giant Philistine who is heavily armed and his name is Goliath. He challenges Saul to send out a man to fight him. Then a brave man named David says “I will do it.” No one believes he can do it, and all odds are against him, yet he goes out against this giant with no armor, no weapons, nothing except a measly slingshot and some pebbles and defeats him. This demonstrates that by having faith, the impossible becomes possible. It also reveals that everyone isn’t going to believe in you and that others might limit you to a much lower level than what you can
