How Does Louisa May Come Homeless Selfish

In the story, “Louisa, Please Come Home” by Shirley Jackson, the main character, Louisa, is a selfish person. She only helps herself and doesn’t care what others think or feel. First of all, she ran away the day before her sister’s wedding. This shows, that if she wanted to run away, she could do it anytime, but she ran away that day on purpose because she wanted to ruin her sister’s wedding. Second, on the anniversary of her running away, she bought herself a hat. That piece of evidence explains that she was celebrating that day, which shows that she doesn’t miss her home, and does not care about how bad her family might feel. You can also see that she was selfish, when she said, “Nothing is hard to do unless you get upset or excited about
it.” This shows that she didn’t care about her family, or otherwise she would have been upset about it. These pieces of evidence show that Louisa is a person that cares only about herself.
