She also found letters from Lio, who has asked Minerva to leave to another country with him. Minerva is angry with Papa and drives to find him but soon runs away. Papa slaps Minerva when he comes back and Minerva tells Papa that she’s lost all respect for him, showing her rebelliousness. Another significant sign of change is when Minerva goes to the Discovery Day Dance and Trujillo invites her to dance, Trujillo thrusts her in a vulgar way and Minerva soon slaps him for that. This is significant in Minerva’s live because it shows that she isn’t afraid of anybody, including the most powerful man in the country. Minerva is also someone who really thinks education is important, she always wanted to be a lawyer and did a bet with Trujillo so she can go to law school. Minerva soon has another baby by the name of Manolito and asks her other sister Patria to take care of him, she had to sacrifice her baby in order to keep on fighting against Trujillo. Minerva’s husband Manolo was the president of the 14th of June Movement, the revolutionaries fighting against Trujillo. Manolo was soon arrested by the SIM and Minerva had to tell Patria she had tuberculosis and she needed pills. The SIM arrested her before she even got her pills. Minerva is locked in a cell with her sister Maria Teresa and with other people who are non political. Many in the prison started wearing crucifixes and the guards were forcing to take them away, Minerva resisted against the guards while Maria Teresa recalled it in her journal, “As she was being marched down the hall, a voice from one of the cells they passed called out,Mariposa does not belong to herself alone.
