How Does Montresor Show Pride
The story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe is a story about revenge. Montresor and Fortunato are the main characters of the story. Montresor has been insulted by Fortunato more than thousand times. These insults lead Montresor to revenge for his pride. Front of Fortunato he act nice and cleverly play upon his pride, this pride lead Fortunato to his death. In the story Montresor characters; physical appearance, personality, and Pride. Montersor’s physical appearances are that he is an elegant, formal looking man, looks peaceful when he meets Fortunato in street. “My dear Fortunato! I am indeed glad that I have met you. I was just thinking of you” (page 69) Author uses these conversations between two friends to show Montersor’s personality and physical description. Also, often he would look really suspicious, but from outside he will be nice. In being of the story when Fortunato made fun of Montersor, inside Montersor said “I would make him pay, Yes; but I would act only with the greatest care” (page 68).

Montresor personalities are somewhat odd, he act fearless, vengeful and confident.
Also, he is clever when he tricks Fortunato into accompanying him down into the taste the wine, and when he plan to take revenge on Fortunato. He made perfect plan to murdered Fortunato by making him “Drunk more win than was good for him” (page 69). Another personality was heartless, “will not they be a waiting us at the palazzo, the lady Fortunato and the rest let us gone, yes, I said; let us be gone For the Love of God, Montresor There came forth only the jingling of the Bells” (page 72). He listens to the begging of Fortunato to be let go, but he ignores him. Also, he keeps him from pushing in the final brick and sending Fortunato to
death. The pride is one of the characters of Montresor. His pride in his family name is so import that he want to take revenge and “ would make Fortunato pay” because he insult it him and his family honored. Pride of family he cannot let himself down, so he plan his revenge carefully. He took advantage of Fortunato wine addiction and led him to the crypt where he plans to bury Fortunato alive, “herein is the Amontillado” (page 71).
