The pigs manipulate the working class similar to how Trotsky and Stalin did in the Russian revolution. Orwell criticises how the pigs in the Russian revolution manipulate and control the working class by using irony and parody.

The animals believe whatever they are told by the pigs or leaders, this is shown to us through anthropomorphism. The pigs represent powerful humans in the Russian Revolution. ‘It was a pig walking on his hind legs’. The pigs wanted nothing to do with the humans and said ‘Four legs good, Two legs bad’ but by them walking on there two hind legs they ended up just like the humans. This betrays the working class animals who worked so hard for them and believed all the pigs lies.

Orwell satirises irony and parody by using the pigs characters. The pigs show irony because of the way they disobey their own rules.
‘ no animal shall take on human behaviours’ but ironically the pigs in the end are the animals that imitate the human behaviours so much that it is hard to tell the difference between them. Animal farm Is a parody of the failure of the Russian revolution by imitating the main historical events that happened using characters that symbolise certain humans. Orwell uses events in history such as the Russian revolution, civil war, and the industrialisation of the USSR to model Napoleon and his attitudes and behaviours.
