Pip has come home to tell Biddy and Joe how sorry he is for mistreating them so poorly, but he also intends on asking for Biddy’s hand in marriage. Pip has come to realize that he cannot get everything he wants and has learned that not everybody waits around for him. This shows true character in Pip because he has also seen himself marrying Biddy and to watch Joe marry her was quite hard for him. In chapter fifty-eight of Great Expectations Pip says, “And, dear Joe, you have the best wife in the whole world, and she will make you as happy even you deserve to be, you dear, noble Joe. And Joe and Biddy both receive my humble thanks for all you have done for me and all I have so ill repaid!” (486) Pip is a better person from this scene because he just told his best friend that he has the best wife in the world, and that was suppose to be his wife one day. Pip shows great courage and character by not being rude, he is kind and gives them great wishes of a very happy life together. Pip’s maturity is truly shining bright in this
