Reading makes us smarter individuals. According to Raymond Mar and Keith Oatley “Its disappearance would imperil the intellectual and emotional development of generations growing up online,”(“ Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter and Nicer” par. 3). Without reading our intellectual levels and abilities would decline over time. Also we need to educate others especially children, but not all adults can read, thus making this a difficult process. “ According to a study conducted late April by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy, 32 million adults in the U.S. can’t read. That’s 14 percent of the population.” (“The U.S. Illiteracy Rate Hasn’t Changed In 10 years” par. 2). If 14 percent of the population ca not read then their children will more than likely not read and so on and so forth.
