Romeo in Romeo and Juliet is a complex character because of his emotional change switches throughout the entire play. Romeo is a son of the King and queen of the Montague, which makes him the prince, and he is looking for a wife. In Act 1 Romeo says to Benvolio “In sadness, cousin, I do love a woman.” (Shakespeare I.I. 200). When Romeo is saying this to Benvolio, he is sounding very depressed and it sounds as if he does not want to be that that relationship anymore. Romeo goes to the party anyways because his friend’s Benvolio and Mercutio talk him into it and he goes .And he meets a girl but he does not know that this girl is the daughter of the Capulet King and Queen. After the party is over, Romeo and Juliet refuse to leave each other’s sight, Benvolio, and Mercutio are looking for him in the streets but cannot find him so they give up. At the end of the play, Romeo hears news that his wife is dead and Romeo is very upset when he gets this word “Well Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight” (V.I.34).
