In Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol” Ebenezer Scrooge changes from a bitter old man to a good person through the help of the ghosts of Christmas past, present and yet to come. When Scrooge was a young man he was kind, nice and good person. However, Scrooge slowly changes from towards a more miserly direction the more wealthy he becomes. At the start of the story Scrooge is a bitter old man who is obsessed with money, completely shuts himself of from society and has a strong hatred for Christmas time and anything Christmas related. When Scrooge was a boy he was a good kid. Scrooge was often abandoned by his father, who was a violent alcoholic, and his friends around Christmas time when everyone went home except for him. This ghost further shows how Scrooge is disliked by the public by showing Scrooge’s nephew getting a good laugh out of Scrooge because he is so widely hated. It also shows Bob Cratchit, Scrooge’s clerk, having his family’s nice Christmas dinner partially ruined at the mere mention of Scrooges name. Cratchit also has a sickly young son who Cratchit cannot afford to pay medical bills for when Scrooge (already showing that some change has occurred) asks if the boy will live the ghost responds with what Scrooge said before of why Scrooge should care because the boy is part of the ”excess population”. Hearing these statements makes Scrooge feel sick about what he

Scrooge emphasizes, "What a fine day fellow... An Intelligent boy, a remarkable boy." This is a critical part of this novel because this shows Scrooge overcame his dislike of Christmas and his entire disliking of people. Instead of rudely gesturing to people, he is now starting to act nicer, and more mature. Scrooge exclaims, " Come back to the butcher and I'll give you a shilling. Come back in two minutes and ill give you a crown!" this show Scrooge truly overcomes the was he acts. Scrooge was all about the money- never wanted to share. Ever since the ghost's from Christmas past, present, and Christmas yet to come, Scrooge was offering his wealth off to other people who need the…

In his novel, A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens portrays Scrooge as the children of ignorance and want; these children are under the cloak of the Ghost of Christmas Present. "They were a boy and a girl. Yellow, meager, ragged, scowling, wolfish; but prostate, too, in their humility… 'This boy is ignorance. This girl is want'" (49). Scrooge only wants money from his life; it is all he cares about. He is ignorant towards any unnecessary spending of the money. Lastly' he ignores his families attempt to socialize with him to make him more affable.…

The fear of Scrooge towards the third ghost is very understandable , above all it is the physical appearance of this ghost that makes Scrooge fear him the most, but on the other hand the quietness of it makes Scrooge get a feeling of suspense. “Scrooge feared the silent shape so much that his legs trembled beneath him, and he found that he could hardly stand when he prepared to follow it” (Dickens 134). The fact that the ghost did not talked at all only made Scrooge more nervous, he did not know what to say nor what to do. The reader can easily notice that Scrooge had a lot of respect towards this ghost, mainly because of the fear that the Phantom was causing him but also because he had learned to do it from the other ghosts. “I fear you…

Through use of language, the reader is positioned to view him adversely, but during the journey of morality lessons shown by three spirits, Scrooge recovers his sense of joy by undergoing a significant transformation. The first ghost I’m going to talk about is The Ghost of Christmas Past. This is the Ghost of Christmas Past - Scrooge's own past. The ghost has a strange changing form and gives out brilliant light. With it Scrooge revisits the scenes of his earlier life. The ghost is different in three ways because one of the ways is how they travel. In the book I thought they traveled my foot not by flying and that surprised me by how fast they flew in the movie. Another is…

In the story A Christmas Carol , my reaction changed towards Scrooge through each stave. In the first opening stave, you felt as if Scrooge was an inconsiderate, horrible man. Throughout the rest of the staves you start to feel bad for Scrooge and almost forgive him. Also his past reflects his personality in the future. This influences my reaction towards Scrooge as Dickens uses contradicting and contrasting techniques. The moral I received was; dickens is trying to convey to the reader is that you can always be forgiven for what you have done in the past.…

He remembers how he was rejected, and then he feels regretful and sad for what he had done and what might happen because of him. In the second stave it says, “The school is not quite deserted,” said the Ghost. “A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still” (33). This depicts that Scrooge had no one that really loved him. He didn’t have any real friends or people to talk too. Scrooge thinks about what he has done, and says regretfully, “There was a boy singing a Christmas carol at my door last night. I should like to have given him something” (36). This demonstrates that Scrooge knows that he has made mistakes, and is starting to become a better person, with the Ghosts’ help. Scrooge becomes sad, finally thinking about someone other than himself. “Spirit,” said Scrooge, with an interest he had never felt before, “Tell me if Tiny Tim will live.” “I see a vacant seat,” replied the Ghost, “In an old chimney corner, and a crutch without an owner, carefully preserved. If these shadows remain unaltered by the future, the child will die” (65). This shows that Scrooge really does care about other people. He is recognizing his emotions for other people…

Scrogge begins the story as a bitter, miserly misanthrope. Dickens uses the three ghosts to illustrate to him the errors of his way and "the final consequences of his actions. His solitary life and disdain for those in need will ultimately lead others to find comfort and happiness from his death. No one will mourn his passing and his money and possessions will be stolen by the desperate and corrupt, the very people he condemned in life. His final legacy will be that of a cheap tombstone in an unkept graveyard. Scrooge then weeps over his own grave, begging the ghost for a chance to change his ways before awakening to find it is Christmas morning. He has been given an opportunity to repent after all. Scrooge does so and becomes a model of generosity and kindness."…
