Three Kings Day = Celebrated over Latin America, Spain and other parts of Europe - On the 12th day after Christmas we believe they visit our house and bring gifts - One Shoe, gifts are left in shoes - Six Walnuts and buckets of water are left for The Wise Men camels – Piece of Coal left in shoes if children were bad all year – Framed Picture of the Three Wise Men.
Kwanzaa = Celebration of African American heritage and future. Dr. Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 – Kwanzaa begins Dec. 26th and last 7 days through Jan. 1st - African American Flag color meanings, Red represents struggle for freedom, Black stands for the color of our people, Green represents the land of Africa and hope for the future – Mkeka (mm-KEH-kah) is a Swahili word for hand-woven mat – Kinara candleholder symbolizes our Ancestors 3 Red, 3 Green and 1 Black in the middle. Gifts are exchanged on the 7th day. Gifts are homemade or handed down from families. 7 Principles pf Kwanzaa is called Nguzo Saba / 1. UNITY working together 2. SELF DETERMINATION speaking for ourselves 3. COOPERATIVE WORK solving our problems 4. COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS building our businesses 5. PURPOSE remembering traditions and values 6. Hanukkah = Is when Jewish people celebrate the miracle of the oil lasting eight days in the temple – Dreidel Game, together the letters stand for “A Great Miracle Happened There” Gelt – cold chocolate coins is what you put in the pot when playing Dreidel.
