According to “Social Media Helps Black Lives Matter” by Bijan Stephen the use of media by the Black Lives Movement demonstrated numerous similarities with the civil rights movement of the 1960’s. One similarity includes the use of video to combat the inequalities of civil rights. The videos usually portrayed events of abuse and inequality and held a lasting impression on individuals who viewed it. This allowed the public to gain access to a primary source of information where they witnessed inequality directly instead of hearing about it. Both movements also used multiple platforms to advocate their message. The 1960’s civil rights movement used the television as well as WATS reports which were mailed to the media and civil rights organization
