How Does Solove Think The Key Thing To Make A Society
Daniel J. Solove is a professor of law at George Washington University Law School. Solove is telling us why he thinks the value of protecting the individual is a social one.
Solove thinks that the most valuable thing about privacy is that it makes society a good place to live. There are a couple of reasons why Solove thinks this. One of his main points in this argument is that, “Part of what makes a society a good place in which to live is the extent to which it allows people freedom from the intrusiveness of others (Solove. Pg. 762).” Solove thinks that the key thing to making a society a good one is the ability to feel free and not feel like someone is constantly watching over you. Understandably so, because if we lived in a society were privacy was non-existent nobody would feel comfortable with being their selves.

“A society without privacy protection would be suffocating, and it might not be a place in which most would want to live (Solove pg. 762).” In this statement by Solove, he continues his point that a society where civilians did not have a right to privacy would be one a lot of people do not want to live in and the idea of having nothing private would make people feel less free.
Solove continues his argument by saying what we do as a society when it comes to our rights. “When protecting individual rights, we as a society decide to hold back in order to receive the benefits of creating the kinds of free zones for individuals to flourish (Solove pg. 762).” In this quotation, Solove is basically saying, that when protecting or individual rights we as a society agree that it is okay that some people’s lives are not private. For example, celebrities are one of those free zones that people flourish in but, give up their privacy in exchange because of the benefits that come from
