I hope that everyone knows that having too much sugar is not healthy for anyone. Yet, two thirds of Americans are considered overweight or obese. Obviously sugar isn’t the only factor in obesity but, it is a huge part. John Oliver mentioned that The Sugar Association believes that “sugar doesn’t contribute to obesity or diabetes.” They pay doctors secretly in order for them to
agree with them. Doesn’t that seem shady? Now there are interviews with these doctors who are claiming over eating sugar doesn’t lead to gaining weight. I just think it's utterly wrong to have that type of information being told to the American people if it's not true.
A new consideration of adding an “added sugar” label in teaspoons on every nutrition label came about in 2014. I think that it is a great idea because no one actually knows how much sugar is being added rather the naturally already being there. Of course, many food and drink companies are fighting against the plan. With many letters sent to the FDA, Ocean Spray is begging for this new addition not to be added. They said that they should be exempt from using disclosure labels because of their “unpalatable” taste of cranberries without sugar. Ocean Spray’s company is primarily based on cranberries yet, they are saying cranberries are gross it just doesn't make sense. What most companies are suggesting is that if they want to go through with the added label they must use grams. Since most Americans don’t understand the metric system it's another way of keeping people in the dark
