Technology has advanced a lot in over the years: technology that people feel the need to have and replace all the time. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury tries to tell people that people will never be the same and it is not a bad thing, he also explains what could happen when we are all the same, Bradbury uses Montag, Clarisse, and Clarisse’s uncle to show this by telling their experiences. First, He tells of the new technology being made that is being used to distract the people in the story, Mildred can be used as an example when she asks for a fourth wall TV(20). Here their technology is separating Mildred from Montag because she is too invested in her “Family” that is on the TV. Another example could be when Montag is on the train all he could think about was the commercial being played(79). People are so into the technology that they can only think about what is happening on it, the government also uses it to keep peace like when They faked Montag’s Death by killing a random man on the street(149).They did not want anyone to worry about anything but what was going on weather it is on a screen or on the radio really did not matter …show more content…
as long as they would be no way for them to really think.
Next, He tells how the government will come after someone when they are not distracted because they believe they will cause trouble in their way of life or their little “utopia” On Page 9 this can be shown when Clarisse tells how her uncle was arrested for having been a pedestrian(9). She also tells of another time where her Uncle was arrested for driving 40 miles per hour on the road(9). Both times tells of how someone was not distracted enough for the government and they got in trouble. another example of this is when they make Clarisse go to a Psychiatrist(22). Because she is not social and is too weird, in all three instances, the government was removing those who were too aware of their surroundings.
Finally, it also tells of how people forgot what things actually look like. Clarisse explains “If you showed drives a green blur, Oh yes! He’d say, that’s grass!”(9). “A pink blur! That’s a rose garden!(9). They only saw things as blurs as they sped by at incredible speeds, Clarisse also explains how it affects billboards when she asks if Montag knew that billboards were only twenty feet long, and explains how they had to stretch so that it would last(9). It is possible it is already happening because of the amount of time some people spend on their phones.
In conclusion, some could say that in Fahrenheit 451 Technology is what causes problems but Bradbury is trying to show that people are pushing towards things that may seem like it will everything is perfect but it is hard to do so because of all the different thoughts and mindsets of people in the world.People may try to be the same but it is impossible to do because there are billions of people each with their own religion, each with their own beliefs, each with their own thought process and each and every one of them will never quite be the same because of that, if people are forced to be the same there will be no advancements in the world.
There would be nothing special no new famous art, no new phones and no new games; all of which many people use or enjoy in the current day and
age.
