How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Enzyme Reaction?
Enzymes are biological molecules (proteins) that act as catalysts and help complex reactions occur everywhere in life. Enzymes are catalyst for biochemical reactions; Enzymes lower the activation ATP so a reaction can begin over the energy barriers. In this lab, a discussion of the enzymes reaction to heat will be addressed. Does heat speed up the enzyme reaction? The prediction is as more heat is applied more reactions will occur then at some point the heat will denature the enzyme as it reaches too high of heat. If an enzyme has been denatured it means the shape has been altered therefore cannot perform its function, many factors can cause this including high heat. The hypothesis is if temperature is increased the amount of activity rate will increase. The results for the rate of oxygen production (dependent variable) will increase as the heat increases. The reason is a chemical reaction to the heat gives it energy. Enzyme reactions are important to life because “Enzymes are proteins that control the speed of chemical reactions in your body. Without enzymes, these reactions would take place too slowly to keep you alive (WhoamI.com).”

Many enzymes allow large molecules to become smaller molecules so the body can break them down (Castro 2014). For example, enzymes allow the digestive system to break down food particles by specific substrates attaching themselves to an enzymes active site and the reaction begins. This process includes the lock and key method. This method has an active site that allows substrates to fit into it and serve a specific purpose. This purpose then catalyzes other reactions within the body. Once the shape of the enzyme changes it becomes denatured and substrates can longer bind in the active
