Animal Farm begins with the pigs as leaders trying to make the farm a communist society. In the story it says, “There was no wastage whatever… And not an animal on the farm had stolen so much as a mouthful” (36). The food on the farm is distributed evenly among the animals and everyone does their job to better the farm. The pigs choose to run the government on the farm similar to a communist society, the animals share the rations and are treated equal to every other animal on the farm. Above all, the needs of the farm were satisfied by this society and everyone benefitted from it.

Needs of the people are said to be ahead of the needs or wants of the leader, but in cases like Animal Farm the needs and wants of the leader ends up being put first.
