Background Information:
This experiment was to show the amount of energy in different types of nuts. The different nuts used in this experiment include peanuts, cashews, pecans, and almonds. The energy will affect all the nuts in different time and temperatures. “Cashews produce the most energy, while peanuts produce the least (education.com). The following will describe the process and data of experiment. We did 5 trials for each nut. The mass of 50 mL of water was always 50 grams. The peanut took the shortest amount of time to burn because it is the smallest nut. Also, the peanut is known as the groundnut because it grows the lowest to the ground. The nuts that didn't burn all the way would have a larger final mass. “The energy given off by the burning pecan was great enough to increase the water temperature by 20.1 degrees Celsius.” (Bio Jun)
The following describes the order of the process. First, we found the initial mass of nut. Second, we measured the amounts of 5o mL of water in grams. Next, we found the minimum temperature of water, then, waited for the nut to burn so we could find the maximum temperature of water. Last, we found the final mass of nut and recorded how long the nut took to burn. The steps determined how much energy was in a …show more content…
The probe should not touch the bottom or side of the test tube.
We clicked the begin data collection. Then recorded the initial temperature of the water in celsius.
We removed the food sample from under the test tube and used a match to light it on fire. We had to quickly place the burning nut under the test tube
If the food was still burning then we would blow it out at 4 minutes. We recorded the maximum temperature of the water in Table 1.
As soon as the water temperature was decreasing we ended data collection be clicking STOP
We found the final mass of the food holder and the nut
We then repeated steps 4-10 for three more trials of different nuts.
Data Description Paragraph: There was not a big difference in between the time the nut burned. Pecans took the longest to burn and peanuts took the shortest time to burn. I was surprised the almonds didn't take the longest to burn. I think the pecans took the longest because they are the
