Feminist Analysis of The Yellow Wallpaper
Feminist criticism is an analysis of literature from the female perspective. It can be a tool for stories that tell female experiences and how storytelling impacts women. In The Yellow Wallpaper, an account of a woman’s experience of child creation is provided for the reader. It tells how one woman who was discounted by the males in her life was able to embrace her own feminine knowingness for her best treatment after having a baby. The changes that women’s bodies go through are miraculous and phenomenal. Pregnancy is process that both grows life and changes lives. Men are not as aware of what happens to women’s bodies throughout the process, even if they are physicians. There are some things that a person cannot tell you, you have to know it by going through it. Laboring a child is like that. Observing a women bringing a child into this world is not close to what her body is performing. Then, there are the chemical exchanges that the body’s intelligence performs. The chemicals that poor into the body affects it to produce sustenance for the baby, but how these chemicals affect the new mother will vary. The mother may notice little to no differences or she can feel unlike herself. It’s a new life with a new little human being. Add to that the feeding schedules, changing schedules, sleep schedules which may mean less sleeping at night and you have potential for emotional
