Theft is an evident problem in our society. It is present in many different forms and is extremely common. Theft occurs all over the United States and its widespread effect impacts everyone. There are many different forms of theft. The most prevalent form in our society is shoplifting. But not usually in stores like Best Buy with valuable items, no, theft in the United States typically occurs in discount stores and grocery stores. Often times, the items which are stolen are not things that people want, but they are things that people need, desperately. Someone a company does not make back its investment in that product, it is short of money to pay its employees, it has less money to produce more of that product, and it makes it difficult for the company to research and/or develop new products. It also impacts the retailer of that product in a similar way. The retailer has less money to pay its employees, less money to maintain the business (whether it be the physical building, or the companies other various expenses), less money to purchase new products to fill the shelves, and less money to make an advertisement. Furthermore, the theft of just one product also impacts the government. When you steal an item, you are quite obviously exempt from paying a tax on that product. This means that you are hurting your government when you steal, making it harder for them to maintain the country and its economy. This means it hurts all business in the U.S. and will eventually come around and impact you, and your job. While the theft of just one item is rather insignificant and has no real impact, the debt starts to pile up when these incidents become more frequent. Especially when an estimated 550,000 thefts occur across the U.S. on a daily basis, this issue is constantly deteriorating the state of our country and its society, which encompasses the entire country and everything in it. These are just the effects of petty theft, the most common form of theft. However,
