How Does Tom Sawyer Mature

Tom sawyer can be seen as different ages during different times in the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He can be a noble and kind person which makes him seem mature. Or he can be a dramatic, foolish boy which makes him seem like a younger child. The real question is “how old is Tom Sawyer?” Tom Sawyer is around the age of twelve because he is the balance of an immature ten year old and a mature fourteen year old. These sides are compleatly different but both fit into to him and make him the person he is. He shows both sides of himself throughout the book.

As a young boy in the 19th century Tom lives a very different life the kids do now. He and his friends do many things that would look out of the ordinary in this time period. He and his friends do things like playing hooky and running away from home which are frowned upon then but very unusual now. Tom Sawyer and his friends also look for buried treasure and digging holes in other people's yards is a uncommon thing. Now modern children do many things that did
Sometimes he acts out of line which can confuse the reader. Even though I think Tom is twelve he can be thought of as younger. When Tom starts fighting with random kids at school or on the street this shows a level of immaturity that a twelve year old does not have. These acts would take place around the age of eight or nine years old. Tom could be thought of as older than he is because he is very smart with what he does and says to save himeself from pranks he does. This type of behavior would happen and come from someone who is thirteen or fourteen. Tom is an unique character. He is a quick thinker and also very immature. He is the balance in between both of these types of behaviors. When you combine these types of personalities you come up with a child who is around the age of twelve. Kids can be smart and immature at the same time and that is exactly what Tom
