Video games are widely used as a source of entertainment. Video games allow a person to physically interact with a television or a computer. Although there are casual players who enjoy a game for a brief period of time, there are also people who are overly obsessed. Obsessed players continuously play with no time limits, while a typical player can control the amount of time they play. This is a video game addiction. Video games create more of an addiction than reading a book as they are difficult to quit playing and people tend to have an urge to pick the controller or keyboard back up and continue to play.…
While watching the documentary “Digital Nation,” produced by Rachel Dretzin, I became interested by a section titled “The Army Experience Center.” The documentary shows clips of teenagers as young as thirteen playing violent videos games in an arcade run by the Army. The whole goal is to arouse these teenagers’ interest so they enlist. Having strong negative feelings towards war and teenage recruitment to begin with, I decided to research this subject further. Let me take you through my thought process while I struggle with the question; Is the Army Experience Center’s (AEC) use of war video games a moral way to recruit teenagers?…
When people think of video games’ effects on society, many envision apathetic young adults wasting time in their parent's basement, mashing buttons in front of a glowing television screen instead of looking for a job; some envision rabid children, screaming into microphones and throwing tantrums in stores to get their parents to buy the latest popular video game; still others envision the violent, disturbing images, and antisocial content in many video games worming their way into impressionable young minds, cultivating the future killers and sociopaths of tomorrow. Much research has been done on the negative effects of video games on individuals and society, but not as much research has been completed on the positive effects they have. In class, the prosocial aspects of video…
Over time these two separate communities will take the war in support for their favorite video game series, Call of Duty and Battlefield. The next generation consoles will have new life into this debate. Activision and EA they both enrolled for another campaign for the fans. So now the war between the two continues.…
Video games today are created on a bases of entertainment but what are computer games? They are most commonly a simulation of a real life or exaggerated situation where a player can experience from their homes. To start off with the most talked about effect of computer games: violence. Many people would say that video games are quite harmless but a question that has arisen quite a lot is that first person view shooter games can have quite a big effect on people as you are playing the role of the character in the game. You are inflicting harm on others personally as you are the character that is playing out the role in the game.…
A video game is an interactive computer that displays a video signal, allowing you to play thousands of games on your television or handheld video game device. (Wikipedia, Video Game) We have came a very long way since the very first type of video game console was invented by Ralph Baer in 1967. From the very first console, the "Brown Box" to the more interactive video game consoles such as the Wii, Playstation, XBOX or the handheld Nintendo DS. Regardless of which video game is being used, it has made a huge impact in life 's of many children, as well as adults today. In the beginning, the games were user friendly and parents did not have much to worry about if they purchased a video game for their child. Take Pac Man for example, a very simple game where the player "Pac Man" eats dots and tries to avoid getting touched by an enemy. Now in 2012, we have games such as Call of Duty which focuses on killing members of the opposite team.…
Video games around the world have become immensely popular, a multi-billion dollar industry. An industry which revolves around the wants and desires of children and teens. An industry with a creation of unique entertainment like no other. An industry that continues to grow rapidly. Hours and hours are spent each day by youths playing these games, but are they really good for them? Are they educational? Games which educate a child’s mind exist but they wouldn’t be as popular as your top seller shooting game. Nowhere even close. Here I am today to tell, to inform, and to enlighten parents on the dangers of letting your child play these violent games.…
When the industry was just starting out, it was argued whether or not video games should even be allowed to be made that were about war. People believed that these sort of games portrayed war in an almost positive way, and created the illusion that war was fun. As the industry matured, most video game developers began working in ways to…
The US military uses violent video games to train soldiers to kill. “The US Marine Corps licensed Doom II in 1996 to create Marine Doom in order to train soldiers. In 2002, the US Army released first-person shooter game America's Army to recruit soldiers and prepare recruits for the battlefield.” Michael Reagan, "US Military Recruits Children: 'America's Army' Video Game Violates International Law," Truthout website, July 23, 2008. People might say that violent video games are not doing . This isn’t true because the army wouldn’t be training their soldiers with things that wouldn’t teach them to kill and be vicious. This means that if kids play the same games as army members they can get to be aggressive like an army person.…
For years, people have argued that there are no positive effects of video games, for they induce violence in people. Nevertheless, if supervised, playing video games can actually help in a child's development, giving to the child enormous potentials in various aspects such as psychological, health and social.…

The amount of children that have entered the world of video gaming has changed drastically, and not for the better. A child will not have a grasp on the perception of how to communicate with others in "real life". Video games shouldn't be a child's first "go to" when stressed out and spending too much time sitting, staring at a TV or computer means the child isn't spending enough time being active.…

Pros say that video games can train our children to become killers and that US Marine Corp Licensed Doom II in 1996 to create Marine Doom to train their men. Also in 2002, the US Army put out a first person shooter called America’s Army, which was used to recruit the soldiers and prepare them for…
As with many other social subjects, constant controversy revolves around whether or not violent video games have any effect on the minds of players, specifically having to do with aggressive behaviors. Supporters of the claim that playing games such as Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, and Halo cultivates real-life violence will always exist, and this controversy will not soon go away. What I’d like to point out are some of the positive effects of playing.…
