After the passing of Corrine, Samuel finds Nettie attractive and both characters get married. As Samuel treats women with the respect that they need, Adam demonstrates his respect and love for Tashi. Adam elucidates his love for her by “ gone after Tashi (258)” so he can reconnect and find his true love. Adam also portrays his love for Tashi by scarring his face. Since Tashi refuse to marry Adam due to her scarring, “ the next day, our boy came to us with scars identical to Tashi’s on his cheeks (279).” The scar symbolize the extent of Adam’s pure love for Tashi.
