Portugal was a kingdom since 1139 until 1910 when it turned into a Republic and in 1926 Portugal tuned into a dictatorship. On April 25th 1974, a Revolution took place in Portugal and was known as “Revolução dos Cravos” also known as the Carnation Revolution. Since no one was injured and no bullets were used the population started offering carnations to the soldiers and at the end of the Revolution, this resulted as the Carnation revolution. These carnations also meant that people started believing again in a prosperous future.
The revolution took place on April 25th 1994 starting at midnight when the national radio, which connected with the people that managed the revolution, started a song called “Grandola Vila Morena”. This song was the signal for all militaries to start running their plans and to take the dictator from the government. They used the radio, the TV, the airport, the communications center, and some key army buildings. The Revolution was a result of people being unhappy with the Political model implemented in Portugal in 1926 and not being able to demonstrate it, because no one was allowed to question the governments decisions otherwise they would be put into jail without any fair or open judgment. This took almost 48 years to end. Portugal between 1926 and 1974 had a Dictatorship model, while the majority of the other European countries were already under a Democracy model.
