the SEC, Glass Steagall-Act, and the FDIC, these regulated the stock market making sure another crash didn’t happen (ushistory.org). Others argue that the New Deal was a failure and just made America’s problem worse.
President Roosevelt’s policy of deficit spending caused the U.S’ national debt to reach an all time high, this debt has still not been paid off to this day. Roosevelt’s New Deal also did not pull America out of the Great Depression, 19% of the population was still jobless and many were still homeless (gilderlehrman.org). The New Deal also didn’t do much for civil rights, Roosevelt didn’t grant full rights to African Americans and women were still not paid the same as men who have the same job. Moreover the wage gap between the poor and the rich didn’t close still resulting in many being homeless and without
money. In conclusion, the New Deal was successful in helping the people and the economy recover from the worst of the depression, giving hope, jobs, and by stabilizing the banks and stock market. Through Roosevelt’s policies he provided millions of jobs, protected the national banks, provided social security, revived American agriculture ,and preserved the free market economy.
