How Farmers Are Involved in Agricultural Extension Programme Planning in Ondo State Adp.
HOW FARMERS ARE INVOLVED IN AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION PROGRAMME PLANNING IN ONDO STATE ADP.
The Agricultural Development Projects (ADPs) were first launched as viable projects in 1972 only two years after the end of civil war, when Nigeria was facing its first food and fibre shock. It started in Northern Nigerian towns of Gombe and Gusau with two pilot projects assisted by the World Bank. The projects were to be funded under a tripartite agreement involving World Bank 66%, Federal government 20% and State government 14% in addition to payments of salaries of local staff. The two main objectives of the ADPs were to increase food production, and to raise the income of small-scale farmers. The ondo state ADP was created after the success of the three (3) pilot projects in 1975 covering an LGA in 3 States. The success of the pilot schemes lead to expansion to other LGAs and States (Ondo state inclusive) in the late 70s and by 1989, all the states of the Federation were implementing the integrated approach. The Ondo state ADP is the implementation organ of the state ministry of agriculture. Ondo State Agricultural Development Project (ODSADEP) is an institution structurally divided into two Zones, four sub-Zones, and eighteen
Blocks/LGAs containing 162 cells/circles. The achievable number of farm families (FF) stood at 180,000 with EA: FF ratio of 1:1782.(ODSADEP, 2012)

The Agricultural adjustment agency was of slight significance as it, did not help to recover the nation. The idea behind Agricultural adjustment agency was to help farmers by controlling farm production and stabilising prices. It was an attempt to end the over-production and falling agricultural prices that had crippled American farmers. This however was not the case. The government paid farmers to produce less, by taking land out of the production or reducing their livestock. This resulted in less produce being produced meaning the prices were increased by nearly double. On one hand, the farmers’ income was doubled from 1933 to 1939, however on the other hand the citizens have to spend more of their money more for produce that wasn’t getting…

ADRP 3-05 also states, “ARSOF must demonstrate continuity of effort when dealing with political, economic, informational and military programs. They must not begin programs that are beyond the economic, technological or sociocultural capabilities of the Host Nation to maintain without further U.S. assistance. Such efforts are counterproductive. SO policy, strategy and programs must, therefore, be durable, consistent and sustainable.” Atkins’ operation was the epitome of “operate with and through others” which translated to “ensure long term engagement.” He established mutually beneficial conditions through the village headman and then proceeded to work alongside the village representative, Jeepo. According to Nick Holland, BBC Business and economics reporter on the economic value of honeybees on Thursday 23rd April 2009 pasted that; Honey Bees keep the world alive "If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then Man would only have four years of life left. No more Bees, no more Pollination, no more Plants, no more Animals, no more man, this remark is often attributed to Albert Einstein, but few scientists now believe this doomsday scenario will actually happen. Nevertheless, the apocalyptic vision is an indication of how important honeybees are to the world's agricultural economy. It is estimated a third of the food we eat is pollinated by bees. So it is no wonder the dramatic and unexplained decline in the population of these insects is worrying for everyone, not just the conservationists. Fewer bees mean less pollination, which results in less honey and fewer plants. The consequences are damaging industries that depend on the insects' survival and threaten to make the food we eat more expensive. Bees do more than just make honey. They fly around pollinating all sorts of fruit and vegetables, which end up in our plates. Their role in the food chain is so important that in…
