Fashion has played a big part in the Australian lifestyle. Australians have always loved getting dressed right for everything from special occasions to socializing around with friends down the street. Celebrities have a high level influence on the way Australians dress.
The length of clothing has changed a lot since the 1950s. Back then it was seen as being very rude if you showed too much skin on your body. Women wore long dresses which did not come above the knees and men wore jackets and cardigans as well as suits. Now women wear clothing as short as they want it and younger girls try to have the most up to date stylish clothing as possible. Men still wear suits out to special occasions but without the tie and the jacket

Casual clothing now days has changed dramatically from the 1950s as you can see. In the 50s, men wore cardigans and collared shirts as well as safari suits which became very popular. Women wore summer dresses which were light weight but still looked very respectable. Children had collared shirts and had to tuck them into their shorts. Men today just wear casual clothes like t-shirts, jeans or board shorts. Women also wear t-shirts as casual clothing as well as jeans and short dresses. Children’s casual clothing is normally just board shorts and t-shirts or colourful dresses and skirts.
In the 50s, having neat hair was also very important no matter where you went. Men, women and children always had there hair combed neatly to look respectable. Today, people don’t really worry about what state their hair is in and the more natural look is the in thing.
In conclusion, the Australian lifestyle as changed dramatically because of the fashion industry. Clothes have become shorter, less of and tighter over the years. This is because of peoples tastes, but mainly because of celebrities and what they wear.
