Globalization
Globalization can be defined as people, ideas, and goods spread throughout the world, spurring more interaction and integration among the world’s cultures, governments and economies. (Rouse) Globalization has been around for a long time. Some can date it back to the Roman Empire; although it became well known in the 1980s. Rapid advances in technology have seem to boost the speed of global integration in the early 21st century. Money, technology, and goods move faster across national boundaries now more than ever in the past. Globalization is becoming more popular in today’s society. Globalization has its proponents and critics just like anything else in today’s world. Proponents include new markets and promotes greater cultural and social integration by elimination barriers. Critics say the elimination of barriers has undermined national policies and cultures and destabilizing advanced labor markets. Globalization …show more content…
clearly has its advantages and disadvantages. Globalization has affected the United States in more than one way.
It has affected the US socially, economically, politically, and environmentally. It has spread the American influence throughout the world. When globalization is used not only is there American influence everywhere but also we have different countries influencing America. We socially benefit from globalization a lot of different ways. Having the influences of different cultures coming into the US enriches our culture. It gives us access to different cultures art or entertainment. Economically it helps by making prices lower. It creates competition and therefor the prices end up lower. Products are available to us better with globalization. A negative side of this is it can affect the US jobs. When it comes to the political side of globalization the US government can learn and expand. It creates access to international aid and helps with world peace. Globalization hasn’t really helped the
environment. Globalization has affected the rest of the world as well. Some of it has been positive while some of the affects are negative. Socially it has affected in a mostly positive way. It creates more knowledge of other countries values and how they live. It also lessens stereotypes of other cultures. This creates more of an understanding with dealing with each other during trade or just going to another country to visit. The economic impact has both positive and negative effects. It creates a competitive field for businesses. This in turn lowers prices. The negative side to this is some countries struggle with competing. This is to be expected for the smaller countries. Politically globalization should be able to help all the governments learn from each other. Globalization doesn’t forget the little guys all the time either. They can ban together and gain more influence. Some negative sides of the political globalization is the coordination is difficult and can be expensive. Also some countries can tremendously slow down the decision making process or completely decline the idea completely. However most of the social, economic and political globalization seem to have plenty of positives to balance the negatives. Environmentally mainly has negatives. Globalization has seemed to raise pollution levels, damage the ozone layer, pollute the soil, and many other things. Globalization is more damaging to the economy than helpful. Globalization affects my life in my education by helping me learn about trade. It helps me understand international business a little better. It does open up some career opportunities for everyone. For me personally I don’t think it will though. I’m thankful for the values in the social world it has brought though. I’m able to appreciate and understand different music and art around the world. I can enjoy different foods from different countries by simply going to my local grocery store because they carry other countries food. I think globalization is a good thing even though it may have some of its negative aspects. References:
