clothing, when she starts to show she has to start buying bigger clothes so her stomach isn't falling out of her shirts.
Hester was also made an outcast through the first half of the book.
Her and Pearl would stand on the scaffold on judgement day but yet no one would stand with them. She was publicly shamed in the town, “ and so, perchance, the torture of her daily shame would at length purge her soul, and work out another purity than that which she had lost;” Women today are still shamed for what they have done. Some girls will lose their friends because all some people care about these days is popularity. Some girls are lucky to have friends that support them through this rough time in their lives. Girls will get stares wherever they go if she is far enough alone to see that she is pregnant and after they have the baby as well.Sadly time hasn't stopped people from judging but it has let people begin to understand that public shaming shouldn't be this
extent.
Throughout the book, Hester has shown how someone can grow from her past. As the second half of the book begins she begins to show that she's not going to let everyone's hate ruin their lives. Hester starts working even more then ever and she also starts to change people's thoughts about her. As the story plays out, people start changing the meaning of the letter. People begin to state that the letter stands for “able” in ch.13. Women today are becoming very good at this. Today people will find it harder to bring a pregnant women down because she is pregnant. Women today start to get their life together once they become pregnant at a young age because they understand that they now have to take care of another human and that baby needs to have things to grow up strong and healthy.
Women today are still affected by others about their life choices but like Hester, yes they do get shamed. Yes they do get made an outcast but they grow from it and they use their choices as a way to make them stronger. It may not be to the full extent but shaming and things related to it, still go on today. It just might be harder to see because we don't make such a big deal out of it. Teenage girls have to grow up so fast just so that they know that their baby will have the things they need. Hester is a good example of how women are still treated to this day but she is also a good example in showing how strong a child can make a women, even if she is still only a teenager.
