How Has Industrialization And Urbanization Affected America
Industrialization and urbanization affected Americans everywhere. Technological developments in construction, transportation, and illumination, all connected to industrialization, changed cities forever. Cities promoted new kinds of industrial activity on large and small scales. Cities were also the places where businessmen raised the money needed to industrialize the rest of the United States. Later changes in production and transportation made urbanization less difficult by making it possible for people to buy cars and live further away from downtown areas in newly developed areas after World War II. New developments in technology brought farming into the realm of big business as well, making the United States the one of world's premier food

Industrialization negatively impacted the economic state of America, as seen by the lowered wages and monopolization of the market. Several factors led to the rise of U.S. industrialization in the late 1800’s. New technologies like steam engines, railroads, and telegraphs made communication and transportation easier. The ability to source and transport materials across the country with ease turned many local businesses into national companies. Workplace innovations, such as the assembly-line method of production, allowed these companies to produce goods on a mass scale.…

Before 1860 the United States showed an economy markedly divided into three productive zones: the industrial northeast, the southern slave, and the midwest food supply. However, the end of the Civil War was an important economic change, not only because of the economic downturn in the southern plantations but also by the consumer goods industry and the capital goods industry. As a consequential of this, after the Civil War, the Industrialization leaves a grateful economic development, social innovation, and political opportunities in the United States. Industrialization was an important influence to make United States’ economy, due to the union of new entrepreneurs and due to the increase of available employments, become the most powerful in…

Although the factories and manufacturing plants had economic value to the nation as a whole, there were also numerous negative and dire impacts of the factories on the lives of the American people and the environment. For starters, many factories and manufacturing plants that were established during the industrial revolution period were not conscious on the impact of emission and disposal of harmful substances into the environment.…

Many changes were happening all over the world and if the United States was to grow as a nation it had to keep up and compete with other countries. Three aspects that really changed how life was lived after the war were transportation, urbanization, and work conditions. Trains along with boats made it easier for people to buy and sell at a faster rate which led to supply and demand of goods or services. Businesses trying to keep up with the demand opened mills and factories then hired many workers that led to people moving away from agrarian society. Looking for work outside the home made it possible for business to have enough people to work machines that mass produced product for sale (Macionis, 2010). These significant changes from the Industrial Revolution affected how the Government worked, the original indigenous people lived, and how Reconstruction…

New technology consisted of streetcars, elevators, and skyscrapers. All these aspects changed cities because they assisted in the development of skyscrapers. Thanks to steel and elevators, building could now support more than ten floors and workers wouldn’t hate walking up multiple flights of stairs because of the elevator. Streetcars also provided many more job opportunities for suburban livers because they now had a way to get into the city for their work without having to live in the city. This amazing technology has changed city-life for us and helped America grow into a country of skyscraping cities. The final thing that transformed and grew America was not a topic but a person, Theodore Roosevelt. He brought strength and leadership into the country and presidency. Roosevelt helped grow America because he preserved thousands of monumental acres of land, he enforced the meat-inspection-act saving us from contaminated meat today, and finally he busted up railroad trusts with the antitrust act. These three important effects made Roosevelt a remembered…

The Industrial Revolution transformed America in many ways. One way is through communication, which is where the telegraph/morse code came in. The morse code was very useful between contacting different countries to the U.S. The morse code also revolutionized long-distance communication and helped grow the U.S. The morse code impacted our society by allowing us to get closer and become allies with other countries and it impacted our economy by being able to send and negotiate trade with other parts of the world much better. The technology of the Industrial Revolution changed America by making work easier and faster. After a bit over one year of fighting for independence, America finally escaped England’s clutches. The new country was relieved that they were now free, but they had just pushed one of their main providers away. Without England’s help making materials, America had to find a way to support themselves. Inventions such as the cotton gin, spinning jenny, water frame, steamboat, and factories helped improve life in the country.…

In my opinion agriculture played the largest role in the success of American business from the colonial period through the first half of the 19th century. From the very beginning farming held a crucial place in the American economy. This country started with 13 small independent farming economies which joined together in 1776 to form the United States. Without being able to be self-sustained these colonies would have never developed. Between 1860 and 1910, the number or farms in the United States tripled, increasing from 2 million to 6 million and farm products made up 82 percent of the country’s exports. From 1860 to 1890 the United States population more than doubled. Farmers however grew enough grain and cotton, raised enough beef and pork not only to supple America’s families but also to create surpluses. Food supplies for workers in mills and factories were also essential to America’s early industrialization. Trade with America introduced potatoes, corn, and beans to Europe. Mechanical devices later helped support farms with the invention of the reaper which more than doubled0 the amount of wheat that could be cut in a day. The Industrial Revolution than came and forced agriculture into greater integration with general economics. Even today agriculture supports over two million jobs and accounts for 10% of the products exported out of the United States.…

Industrialisation started in North America around 1840's with the migration of industrial technology. People adapted use of machines. Agriculture revolution took place and farmers produced more crops for more people. Lot of rural to urban and international migration took place. There was competition amongst factories and shops for prime lands, right in the core of city. The working class consisted of white collar managers and blue collar labourers . No zoning laws existed at that time which led to haphazard development and segregation of space took place (D'Addario, 2013).With the spread of industrialisation there was a centripetal movement of factories and spatial distribution was dominated by factories especially near water availability. Increase in population led to outward movement to suburbs by the elites due to congestion in the city and no free land was available. The urban structure of the industrial city consisted of Central Business District which was the hub of economic activity. CBD was home to the largest industrial events and hosted all the offices of industrial city. Distance between homes and factories tend to increase as houses diverged away from the centre of city. Innovation in technology expanded the urbanisation process and network in electricity, water, gas started to create infrastructure in city. With the improvement in transport industry due to industrialization,…
