Casilda’s character was hard for me to depict because she seemed so spoiled, yet she mentions them being “penniless” and cannot afford a dress to meet her new husband. However, when her parents leave, she turns into a completely different person because we find her love for Luiz is strong and she does not want to be married to the royal heir of Barataria, but instead to Luiz. I feel that Casilda should be moving around and being happy to be in love but during the performance, all of the characters stood in one spot, only moving to trade places with someone. This was kind of boring for the audience to see. I expected to see them moving around and acting with what they were singing, instead of just moving their hands. Casilda and Luiz would hug, but really that was all. The girl who played Casilda did great for what she was given and had a wonderful voice. She portrayed Casilda as a little bratty and annoyed, yet someone who would speak her mind. Casilda was enthusiastic and hopeful about little things that could get her out of marriage such as not knowing the whereabouts of the royal heir and thinking the royal family would hate her family and would not want to get married to her. She was very strong and knew what she wanted. She was not afraid to be herself. I think this is why Casilda stuck out to
